Fausto, Julius, or Massimo??

Ok, here's your chance to offer up baby name suggestions for me if you have any! Marc and I have a few good options for girls, like we did last time around, but if it's a boy, we are right where we were before -nowhere. Marc hates any "trendy" names, or names that sound like race car drivers. I hate basically any boy name Marc comes up with... shall I share a few names that my little Luke could now be if it were up to Marc? Fausto and Julius Caesar come to mind right away. This time around it's names like Massimo (all I can think of is the brand of clothes at target, spelled with an "o" not an "a". Hate it). So I'm open to ideas... girls or boys, but preferrable boys! :)

Joe's suggestion is.....
TARQUIN

I'm not kidding. He loves it. No joke. Something historical or something?
His other suggestion is ROCKY.
Hmm......

Other popular names in Joe's class:
Lake
Bo
Cody
Emerson
Jackson
Kaydron
Liam
Nelson
Winston
Quinn
Wyatt
Wade

Oh, and on a side note, Joe's got a 'Sheniqua' in his class this year. No joke.

OK, I think Liam was on Marc's list. I think Joe's list is similar to Marc's list! ;) Just kidding. I see 800 kid names each day around the school, but in Killeen, TX, I swear parents just pick some letters from a bag, throw in an apostrophe (I have 3 kids with apostrophes in their first names this year) and call it a name. We get some odd ones. My favorite of the day: Sexana. Huh. What do you use for a nickname on that one?

Each year, after kindergarten screening,I make a list of new names and/or unusual spellings. Here's some of the latest:
Baileigh
Pashience
Gradin
Yariel (say "Jariel")
Maya
Sutton
Justtina (yes,tt - just tina)
Harlee
Ezra (2 this year)
Danae
Caden

Try singing some of these in the Name Game. "Pashience, Pashience,
bo bashience,..." Aunt Barb

2 Ezras? Really? Interesting. Sounds a little too old. Baby Ezra. There is a Khadaffi in 2nd grade. Khadaffi Minatrea anyone?

I also love looking at our class lists each year and seeing what unusual names are there. Here's my favorites from this year:

Lennon
Aeris
Stosh
Preston
Elliott
Thurston
Laif
Lawson(his dad is a police officer...son of the law, get it?)
Reece
Avery
Marshall
Saxon
Jacoby

On a more serious note, I like some of these:
Max (Max Minatrea sounds cute)
Evan
Kaden
Wyatt
Carter
Colin

What girls names do you like?

Anonymous said...

I'll be very disappointed if you don't pick a name from this list:
LeBron
Willie
Manny (Manny Minatrea sounds good)
Bubba
Desmond
Marquel

or for italian names try:
Florence
Venice
Rome

Or youcould end the myth and name it either Orangejello or Lemonjello.

That's my two cents...your favorite brother-in-law

Amy Covey said...

Ohhh....just thought of another one...how about...TODD?!?!?! (hee hee)

I think the winner is Bubba... That is sooo us! :)

Obviously, it has to be Matthew, so you'll have Matthew, Marc, Luke, and Jill.

So many choices, and only one baby to name! Lori, the only Tarquin I've heard of is from the Shopaholics books... Has Joe been reading that series???

~Lori said...

Oh my gosh! The shopaholic books! THAT'S where I've heard Tarquin! (Probably not where Joe heard it...I hope...)

And Nancy, my first thought was Matthew too, for the same reason! Scary that we all think alike huh?

Jack is also a good choice. (you know Jack and Jill.)

Amy Covey said...

HA HA HA - definitely go with Matthew. I seriously like Jack though.

By the way...you win the prize for the most comments EVER! Impressive!

Ok, so I had to be part of the "most comments ever" and add my two cents. Luke is a "strong" name, so I think you need another strong boy name to go with it. How about Jonathan, Alex or Max? And if you go with Max, can you make him wear glasses, even if they're just fashion glasses? I always think of cute little kids with glasses when I think of the name Max! =)

~Lori said...

Well, since Jessica is leaving "serious" suggestions, I'll say that my favorite so far is Max.
And Wyatt.

For a girl, I LOVE Isabella!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

There are so many comments, I have to add 3 more thoughts.
1. For most of those boy names, he'd better be at least as big as his dad, b/c he will get picked on, & not just from other family members.
2. Isabella Minatrea? Makes you want to dance the tarentella.
3. Gordon Minatrea!

Okm since someone picked "Gordon Minatrea" I have to put my vote in for "Elliott Minatrea." I thought the name elliott was so cute but not Elliott Elliott.
Anyway, you can have our choices. I'll let you. We had William Cody (You can call him Will since Marc doesn't get the going by the middle name thing) or Charles Cooper (He can go by Charlie).
I am also a fan of Max.
How about Omar?
Also I like Jack, but isn't vickie's baby Jackson?
Or how about Roman? That way you pick an italian name and feed into me and mom's days of our lives obsession.
Or how bout Teacherson or Coachson?

Brenda said...

Ok, Marcus and I are seriously thinking here.
What NOT to name your boy (and we know people with these names)
1. Kaos Demon (pronounced Chaos)
2. Omarr Shariff (first and middle name)
3. Chuck Taylor (as in converse)
4. Sexana and Pleasure (sister and brother that graduated a few years ago)
5. Shjardee (pronounced Shardee)

There's gotta be more, but i can't think.

For girls, since you've already got Minatrea as a base, I love Isabella (days of our lives, again) and Sophia. Those just don't fit our life on the ranch Elliott lifestyle.
May I recommend reading the Pottery barn Kids catalog? That's where we found Payton...it's the name of a lamp base.
Or how about Vince? Just came to me...good strong traditional name that lots of Italians have and also the name of the former Longhorns quarterback, Vince YOung!

Jill said...

Ok, now with all those thoughts, here are my latest...
Still not getting far on boys names. I have liked Elliott in the past though, so that's an option, but Marc will probably veto that one. Girls are Isabella and Larissa - Luke and Larissa sound good together, and we like Isabella -she'll have quite the name though! We don't need our kids' names to be similar or start with the same letter or anything, so any good names are fair game. As for Max, when I mentioned it to Marc, he said "Yeah, that's what I said - short for Massimo." I had to stress to him that I like Max, NOT Massimo! :)

William Cody is definitely out, we might as well name him Red Neck. Elliot is coll but got to pass. no Gordon or Charles. I like boys names that arent of English origin, i prefer latin origin, they are not that common but that way out there, like Luke. No Vince, like i told Chris no red sox names, well no longhorn names either. if tis a girl she definitely gets an Italian name!! Isabella or Carmella are my front runners, or both. Nike would be a cool middle name. Names of Greek origin rank right behind names of Latin origin. Latin names get the edge because they come from the better European peninsula!!! Massimo Minatrea would be off the chain!!!!

Marchi Andrea Minatrea

Jill- if it is a girl, I definately think Isabella is the way to go. If I had an Italian last name and were ever going to have a girl,(which I never will probably) I would have done Isabella. I think it is the best name. As far as boys good luck. It took us forever to come up with boys names both times so I can't offer much help. We finally chose Zachary this time after many ridiculous offers from John like Raoul.

Okay, I haven't had time to put in my two cents yet so here goes. I liked the Matthew...Jill idea but also thought maybe something starting with K so you would have JKLM--but there aren't that many strong K names (Kurt, Kyle,??or KENT) I think a good choice would be Davis--(I know it is more of a Welsh/English name but would get my vote). I do like Max and definitely like Isabella and Larissa. Or going with the "Days" names, how about Victor? Will check out names when I get back to subbing again. Good luck. At least you got lots of comments. MOM

Ok mom and Brenda... just for the record, IF I have a girl, and IF we name her Isabella, it will have NOTHING to do with days of our lives! ;) It is just a cute name I like, nothing to do with soap operas or Italy! :)

If it's a girl she will have an italian name, and she won't be named after anyone. If its a boy he wont be named after anyone either.
